Deadlock by Diann Mills

Deadlock by Diann Mills – Review

Two murders have rocked the city of Houston. Are they the work of a serial killer, or is a copycat trying to get away with murder?

That is the question facing Special Agent Bethany Sanchez, who’s excited for her new appointment in violent crimes but dying about meeting her new partner. Special Agent Thatcher Graves once detained her brother, and he has a reputation for being a maverick. Plus, their fact-finding fashions couldn’t be more opposite: he works on instinct, while she goes by the book.

When popular leads shortly fizzle out, their differences threaten to leave them deadlocked. But an attempt on their lives turns up the heat and brings them closer together, and a third victim might give the hint which will help them zero in on a killer. This could be the case in their livelihood . . . if they could endure long enough to solve it.

Deadlock is about two FBI Agents, coming together as partners for the very first time to investigate serial killings that are going on. Special Agent Bethany Sanchez is a “by the rules” sort of gal. Special Agent Thatcher Graves once detained Bethany’s brother, but hasn’t connected the relationship. This case has them fighting, not only striving to balance their strengths with each other, but attempting to solve the case before someone else gets murdered. Together with that, they are having a growing interest to each other that they’re attempting to fight as it is against the rules.

I truly enjoyed this novel. I generally would not choose this kind of storyline, but I’ve appreciated Diann Mills novels. It keeps you intrigued and wanting to read more to learn what will happen next. And the story has twists that take you by surprise, so you do not actually understand what is going to happen next. If you enjoy suspense and romance together in a clean structure, I highly recommend this book.
